It is up to you. If you already have been in contact with the dealer it might be a good idea to tell him that you will send an InspectWise car inspector agent to check the car for you. This way the seller doesn’t thing that there is a lot of interest for the car from two different sources. It makes it easier to negotiate the price down. On the other hand, our inspector will always call the seller first and he will try to reserve the car until inspection. So, we do not require you to take any action.

Currently, we inspect any motorbikes, cars and vans (less than 3500 kg) – both historic to new. In the future, we’ll be adding other types of vehicles and allow our agents to set prices for inspections of different vehicle types.

If you’re a single individual living within EU, it’s required you pay a 24% Finnish VAT for any services we provide. If you’re a company from another EU country, you’ll need to provide a valid VAT number in order to get the VAT removed from our services. If you’re a private client or company located outside the EU, you will not have to pay any additional VAT on our services.

We require all InspectWise agents to schedule their inspection within 24 hours of your booking. Each inspector will be reviewed for their prompt communication and inspection quality. While the seller may not be available for immediate inspection, in most cases we’ll be able to send you an inspection report within two working days at the latest.

In the EU, car prices are often mentioned as “netto” without VAT and “brutto” with the local VAT (i.e.: 19% in Germany or 24% in Finland). A vehicle is considered to be new in the EU if you buy a vehicle that was registered less than 6 months ago or is driven less than 6000 kilometers. For new vehicles, it’s always required to pay a VAT in the EU country which the vehicle is registered.

EU businesses can purchase a vehicle from other EU countries without the VAT, however they will pay a VAT in the country where the vehicle was registered. Individuals are allowed to buy a car from a business in other EU countries by paying the VAT to the seller (based on the seller’s home country. In this case, there’s no need to pay VAT in that destination country. This way, individuals will save a significant amount when they import a car from another EU country with lower VAT percentages. In all cases where individuals or businesses are located outside of the EU, they will not pay VAT to the EU (no VAT required for any car purchase).

Some EU countries have other taxes included in the car price. In Finland and Portugal, this is called a “car tax”. In the Netherlands and Denmark, it is called a “luxury tax”. Fortunately, buyers from other countries can apply to get this additional tax returned to them if the car is exported to any other country.

Absolutely! While there will be an additional cost, you can get a verbal version of the vehicle assessment report as well. In this case, one of our agents or an experienced customer service representatives will call you to go through the report over the phone. On the call, we’ll also provide you with additional key information if you decide to move forward with the purchase and export process.

We will always refund you 100% of your payment in the event we’re not able to perform the inspection (or any other service). You only pay for the services that are rendered. By purchasing the pre-inspection history report, you can cancel the inspection up to 5 hours before the set inspection time and receive a full refund of the inspection and traveling fees paid.

Our agent will conduct all possible tests without test-driving. While in an ideal world we would be able to test drive every car for our clients, sometimes it’s just not possible (seller may decline, vehicle is not insured, etc.). Even so, our comprehensive report will still provide significant value, where our inspector will spend 1-2 hours inspecting the exterior, interior and equipment. They will also listen to the engine and observe if there is excessive exhaust smoke when the throttle is pushed. Unfortunately, in cases where our agent is unable to perform a test-drive, we will not be able to refund any of the payment made.
